Obama's Phony Offer
Obama's trip to Texas starts in El Paso, then to Austin for a fund raiser. O offers to meet Governor Rick Perry in El Paso (a 2 hr plane ride just to shake hands). Perry counters back to meet in Austin (hey, makes sense to me, saves 4 hrs of plane time plus security details, saves money & time). O says no time for the meet.
The fires in Texas deserve federal aid. O makes a political decision not to help.

After 3 days of constant rain, it was nice to enjoy the sunshine and fresh air in the park, just one kilometer down the street ...

Almaty Earthquake
Update at 9:41 ... USGS says 5.4 quake centered about 25 miles from Almaty. Reuters says no immediate reports of damage.

It's Sunday, May 1, 8:32 am .... 9:32pm Saturday in Texas ... Just experienced a minor earthquake. At first I thought it was a big gust of wind, but the trees weren't moving. The windows rattle, house shook a little. It lasted all of about 5 seconds.
NBD - no big deal. Thankfully. Almaty suffers a major earthquake every 100 years ... and we are overdue for the big one.
